Five questions with

KARINA ROZUNKO

JW: Where are you currently calling home, and how does that affect your surfing and work?
KR:
California is home, but I also spend a lot of the year in Indonesia. I love the contrast between the two. The waves are so different, and changing the scene is refreshing.

JW: What do you want to express through your surfing?
KR:
I guess I never think about what I want to express through my surfing. It's something I do for myself, and if I'm enjoying myself, that's all that matters.

JW: It seems you like writing poetry. Does it influence your daily life?
KR:
Writing to me is like surfing in that it's my way of expressing myself, and if it feels good, it feels good.

JW: Growing up in San Onofre, do you sense the influence of this place on global surf culture and your connection to it?
KR
: San Onofre has had a huge influence on surf culture. It has been an iconic scene since the 1950s and still is today. I learned to surf there, and it's where I met some of the most important people in my life. To me, this beach is legendary.

JW: What excites you about joining the July Wetsuits project?
KR: I love that
it feels natural to be part of a project with my friends and do what we all enjoy.
