Five questions with
JOSH FARBEROW
JW: Can you describe to us what Malibu means to you?
JF: Malibu has been an anchor point for me throughout my life. It’s a consistently good, fun wave, where I see old friends. It can frustrate me sometimes with the crowd, but over time it has been my favorite place to spend a day.
JW: What excited you about joining the July Wetsuits project?
JF: Working with a good friend on a product that I knew was top of the line, and the opportunity to be a part of making the warmest, best fitting, and most comfortable wetsuit ever made.
JW: What inspires you to keep surfing as consistently as you do after all these years?
JF: It’s just what we do. Making surfboards has been a big part of staying excited to get in the water. Being able to adapt my quiver to my aging body and evolving thoughts of what you can do on waves has been a big part of staying stoked. The more complicated life gets, going surfing makes me appreciate free time and letting nature be in control.
JW: Many of your peers regard you as the “King of Malibu,” which makes one wonder who was the most influential to you with your surfing.
JF: I would have to say John Baker and Jonathan Paskowitz.
JW: What is your vision of surfing today? - Has it evolved over the years?
JF: Surfing is much more mainstream than ever before. Everyone knows that. I’m in awe of some of the shortboard surfing. Both the crazy ledge navigating big wave surfing, and above-the-lip stuff. Crazy and with style.
